Opportunity Description: Catholic Charities Health & Nutrition staff welcomes volunteers of all ages to "get their hands dirty" in the Food Pantry Community Garden, located at the Catholic Charities central office in Jefferson City, MO. This garden is a labor of love and open to neighbors and community members. Volunteers are invited to participate and assist with seasonal garden sessions hosted by Catholic Charities and/or partnering agencies. Volunteers will encourage participant involvement during these session, as well as assist staff with monitoring garden operations/development and routine plant maintenance such as watering, weeding, pest control, harvesting, etc.). Seasonal support includes preparing the garden for fall and winter crops.
Time Commitment: Seasonal garden sessions typically will cover a 1-2-hour time frame over the course of several weeks. Routine garden maintenance shifts are flexible, but can be expected to range from 1-3 hours per week per volunteer. Individuals interested in assisting with routine maintenance shifts should contact Health & Nutrition staff to discuss schedule/availability. You are welcome to sign up for seasonal garden sessions or schedule routine garden maintenance shifts as frequently as you like. We do ask that once you are signed up, please honor that commitment. If you are unable to work a scheduled shift, please call to let us know.
Position Requirements: Volunteers must be 14+ or accompanied by a parent/guardian. All volunteers must be Safe Environment/VIRTUS compliant through the Diocese of Jefferson City in order to register for a service opportunity.

Additional information: Parking spots near the main entrance should be kept open for visitors to the buildings; park in designated areas. Enter through the main entrance at the front of the building and check in at the Welcome Center. We will be ready to welcome you on your first day and provide a brief orientation.
